Holiday Decorations

Lights, wreaths, inflatables, and everything else that goes up for the season. Here's what's actually on the books, and what the board added this year.

The Short Version

Decorate for any holiday you like, for as long as the season lasts. The one hard rule: everything needs to come down within 30 days of the holiday it celebrates. That's a rule the board added this year, not something that's been on the books since 2012.

Added January 2026

The 30-Day Removal Rule

From the Spring 2026 newsletter, announcing a board action from that January's meeting:

“The Westwind Board of Directors at its January meeting modified the Westwind Guidelines – 2012 to require that all holiday decorations be removed from homes within thirty (30) days of the holiday they celebrate.” The Westwinder, Spring 2026

This is a real board action, but a heads-up on sourcing: it's an amendment to the 2012 ACC Guidelines, and the Guidelines document posted on this site is still the original, unamended 2012 version. If the board republishes an updated Guidelines PDF, this page will be updated to quote that directly instead of the newsletter's summary.

Straight from the Declaration

The General Exterior Lighting Rule

Separately from the 30-day rule above, the Declaration has always had a general lighting restriction that applies year-round, not just around the holidays:

“No exterior lighting shall be directed outside the boundaries of a Lot or other parcel of the Properties.” Declaration of Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions, Article VII, Section 3

In plain terms: keep the display pointed at your own lot. This isn't holiday-specific; it applies to any exterior lighting, any time of year.

Ask the Board

Large or permanent installations may still fall under the ACC's general exterior modification review. When in doubt, ask before you install.
